ROBERT L. TALLEY, DDS, ASSUMES PRESIDENCY OF AMERICAN ACADEMY OF CRANIOFACIAL PAINLocal Dentist to Preside Over International Dental Organization Founded to Fulfill the Need for More Widespread Knowledge of Diagnosis and Treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders and Craniofacial Pain August 1, 2006 – Norman, OK – Robert L. Talley, DDS, was installed as President of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain at the organization’s 22nd Annual International Clinical Symposium, which was held on July 27-29, 2006, in Denver, CO. Dr. Talley, who succeeds Steven R. Kilpatrick, DDS, of Arkansas, assumed the presidency before a crowd of approximately 250 dentists, all of whom devote a substantial portion of their practices to assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients who suffer from head, neck and facial pain; temporomandibular disorders (TMD); and sleep disorders. He will serve a two-year term. Dr. Talley, who began his career in restorative dentistry, has been in private practice since 1971 and is Director of Craniofacial Pain Associates of Oklahoma (www.tmj-pain.com) in Norman, OK. The practice is directed toward conservative (non-surgical) care through interdisciplinary management of patients who suffer from headaches, neck and facial pain; temporomandibular disorders; and sleep-disordered breathing (i.e., snoring and obstructive sleep apnea). He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, and Diplomate of the American Board of Craniofacial Pain, American Board of Orofacial Pain, and the American Academy of Pain Management. Dr. Talley is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. He is one of approximately 110 dentists across the country – and the only dentist in the state of Oklahoma – to achieve this certification. As AACP President, Dr. Talley will play a key role in advancing the Academy’s goals, which are: to elevate and enhance the professional standards of diagnosis and treatment in the field of Craniofacial Pain and TMD, to encourage research and further study; to recognize for the benefit of the public those professionals who have specialized knowledge and skills in diagnosis and treatment; to promote and improve professional levels of competency; and to encourage the highest standards of excellence for practitioners. Today, the AACP (www.aacfp.org) has over 700 dentist members plus sections in Canada and Latin America. One of fourteen original founding members, Dr. Talley has been Chairman of continuing education programs for the Academy since the organization was established 1985 and served his first term as AACP President in 1990-1992. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Oklahoma and is a graduate of the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Dentistry (1971). ### |
